NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Certification Course (Hixon, TN)
June 8 @ 8:00 am - June 9 @ 6:00 pm$250.00
This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises, student-teaching, and a written exam. Please note that this course will be held in Hixon, TN (just outside of Chattanooga).
This is a two-day course to certify students as NRA certified pistol instructors.
Day one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT), utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. During this part, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures, basic public speaking skills, training methodology, use of a training team and training aids, organizing a course, building a budget, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification.
Day two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students.
Before attending the instructor course, candidates will be required to provide proof that they have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course. This is an NRA policy that is strictly enforced, regardless of prior shooting experience or training. If you haven’t completed this course, it will be offered the day before the instructor course.
Please note: If you completed the online version of the NRA Blended Basic Pistol course, that’s not enough to satisfy the prerequisite for the instructor class. Instead, you must have completed the entire eight-hour Basic Pistol course, including the in-person live-fire training (“Phase II”). If you’ve only had the online portion, you can always take the full Basic Pistol class from CSA before the instructor class. Please contact us if you have any questions. Thanks!
For this class, we are honored to be hosted by the Chattanooga chapter of A Girl and A Gun Shooting League. The chapter has graciously arranged for this class to be held at Shooter’s Supply Indoor Range in Hixon, TN. If you have questions about the course itself (registration, course content, prerequisites, etc.), please contact CSA directly. But if you have questions about the local facility, applicable range fees, or the Chattanooga AGAG Chapter, please contact Ms. Stephanie Winn:
We are very excited to bring this class to the Chattanooga area and team up with the local AGAG chapter. Please note that this is a co-ed, open-enrollment class (not limited to AGAG members). All are welcome, and we look forward to seeing you there.
For this class, each student will need the following:
- A reliable handgun*
- Approximately 100 rounds of ammunition* (might not need that much, but just to be safe)
- Eye and ear protection*
- Note-taking materials
- Snacks, drinks, meds, any other amenities you may need to stay comfortable throughout each day
- Sack lunch (or money to buy lunch)
- Range fees, if applicable (please contact facility or local host)
- An open mind
*Although we do offer loaner guns and eye/ear protection for our Basic Pistol class, any instructor candidates should already have their own equipment. If you need ammunition, you may it from CSA (please contact us in advance to let us know so we can be adequately stocked). Please note that in this class we will not be using holsters. Instead, all shooting will be done from a range bench or table.
