Technical Handgun: Tests and Standards (John Johnston)
October 9 @ 8:00 am - October 10 @ 6:00 pm$500.00
CSA is excited to welcome John Johnston of Citizens Defense Research for this two-day deep-dive into technical precision with a handgun. John manages to pack tons of individualized coaching into this group class, so every student has the opportunity leave with a measurable improvement in his or her skill level.
This class is fast paced intermediate/advanced level 20-hour class where we will dive into the weeds on technical shooting standards, and the fundamental skills it takes to be successful performing them. The two day curriculum is heavily student driven, and will vary slightly from class to class. A heavy emphasis will be placed on pushing people to new levels of automaticity. Multiple tests and assessments will be shot, cold, for recorded score, and the class’s top shot will receive a “Major Award.” Expect a SIGNIFICANT amount of one on one time.
- Increasing presentation speed
- Decreasing reaction time to visual stimuli
- Maintaining accuracy, at speed
- Recoil management
- External pressure disassociation (Performance Jitters)
- And More!
John Johnston holds several instructor certifications including Rangemaster Advanced Handgun, Vehicle Close Quarter Battle (VCQB), Close Quarter Battle (CQB), and more. He hosts the nationally syndicated Ballistic Radio show and is a product consultant for companies that specialize in self-defense. John is a strong advocate of critical thinking and challenging the status quo. As the co-owner and instructor of Citizens Defense Research, he is passionate about fostering curious students who ask questions. His desire is that they understand why certain tactics, techniques, and products may or may not be applicable.

- Quality Semi-Automatic Handgun, preferably with a 15 round capacity.

What should you know before taking this class? Here’s John’s answer:
Shooters will be expected to already be proficient with their chosen handgun and carry method at the beginning of class. This class IS NOT SUITABLE as an introduction to formal handgun training. If you have never attended a handgun shooting class, please DO NOT sign up.”
Cost of the class is $500 (plus Eventbrite’s processing fees). Students will also need to bring $20 to class for the range fee.
Here’s the cancellation policy from Citizens Defense Research:
The only way we can know that a class is full is when the specified number of students have registered and paid their tuition fees. Once a class is full, we have to turn away others who would like to attend. If you cancel too close to class, or fail to show up for class, you keep someone else from attending and would cost us a student. Please be sure you can attend a class before signing up for it. We believe this policy is fair to you, to other students, and to us. In order to minimize this, we have strict policies on pre-payment and cancellation.
To secure a slot in a course full payment is required (unless otherwise specified). If a deposit is made, the balance will be due 30 days before the course starts. Cancellations by a student inside the thirty day window will be non-refundable but creditable to another Citizens Defense Research class anywhere the student wishes to train, within 18 months of the cancellation. Cancellations by students the week of the course will be non-refundable and will receive no credit. Cancellations by Citizens Defense Research will be fully refunded within 14 calendar days.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!”
