Ladies under the age of 18 may take the class as long as they will be accompanied by a parent. Typically the youngest age to participate is 12 years old\, but please contact us for details on age restrictions. Our Women’s Concealed Carry class helps ladies identify and employ safe\, reliable\, and comfortable handgun carry methods that fit their lifestyles. In the classroom segment\, we’ll explore different concealment options and discuss the practical strengths and weaknesses of each. In the live-fire segment\, we’ll teach women how to present a concealed handgun on demand without sacrificing the marksmanship fundamentals they learned in their handgun carry permit class. \nTopics we’ll cover (time permitting): \n\nSafety\, safety\, safety!\nFundamentals of marksmanship (quick review)\nThe four-count draw (starting with dry work and progressing to live-fire)\nSafe re-holstering\nOpen carry versus concealed carry\nClosed-front and open-front concealment garments\nOn-body carry (hip/appendix/ankle holsters\, belly bands\, compression undergarments\, etc.) versus off-body carry (purses\, briefcases\, etc.)\nHolster selection (common options\, samples\, demos\, and pros/cons of each)\nSimple holster modifications to improve fit\, speed\, comfort\, and security\nCarrying with restrictive or fitted clothing\nSecuring firearms in non-permissive environments\nPractical considerations for ladies who carry\n\nLadies will need to bring their own handgun and holster. It’s a great curriculum for women who have been exposed to marksmanship fundamentals but have little or no practice with holster work. It’s also great for women who are largely self-taught and want a more formal template for practicing their handgun presentation from concealment. \nRegardless of prior experience\, this is a perfect opportunity for lots of practice repetitions under the watchful eyes of several experienced instructors who can offer useful\, individualized tips for improving your efficiency and consistency when working a holster. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. Developing the required skill takes more than one class\, it is a process that involves time\, instruction\, and structured practice. \nFor those who want to gain confidence and competence with their handgun we have the “After the Permit” series of courses\, ATP-1 and ATP-2.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]ATP-1 is a half-day course that continues where the TN Handgun Permit class ends. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Those skills can only come with time\, instruction\, and structured practice over more than one class. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. Unfortunately\, most state-mandated permit classes do not include any instruction on how to present a handgun from a holster\, let alone any tips from a female perspective. Our Women’s Concealed Carry class helps ladies identify and employ safe\, reliable\, and comfortable handgun carry methods that fit their lifestyles. In the classroom segment\, we’ll explore different concealment options and discuss the practical strengths and weaknesses of each. In the live-fire segment\, we’ll teach women how to present a concealed handgun on demand without sacrificing the marksmanship fundamentals they learned in their handgun carry permit class. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nThis class is restricted to ladies only. It’s a great curriculum for women who have been exposed to marksmanship fundamentals but have little or no practice with holster work. It’s also great for women who are largely self-taught and want a more formal template for practicing their handgun presentation from concealment. And if you do have experience drawing from a holster\, this is still a perfect opportunity for you to get in lots of practice repetitions under the watchful eyes of several experienced instructors who can offer useful\, individualized tips for improving your efficiency and consistency. We will teach all the same techniques that most competent concealed carriers use\, but with a female lead instructor and special emphasis on factors women tend to prioritize (fellas\, if you’re interested in class involving holster work\, please consider our ATP-2 course). Equally important but less often recognized is the role of the assistant instructor. Being an effective assistant trainer requires more than just standing behind a row of shooters or loitering in the back of the classroom. How do you handle a nervous student? Or a student who doesn’t follow directions? Or one who is unsafe\, chatty\, inattentive\, physically compromised\, or just plain terrified? What is the assistant instructor’s role\, and how is it different from the lead instructor\, or the range safety officer\, or the one-on-one coach? In this class\, we’ll explore some useful tips\, skills\, and best practices that elevate the A.I. from just another person on the range to an indispensable part of the training team. \nNo ammunition is required for this class. All drills and exercises will be conducted in the classroom\, with dummy ammunition or blue guns used to simulate range instruction. In our last offering of this class\, we focused on classroom management\, range preparation and set-up\, and general safety enforcement. They help level the playing field by offering defensive options to those who might otherwise be vulnerable. This is especially true for women\, since they are disproportionately targeted by criminals who often outweigh them or outnumber them. But your handgun is useless if you can’t access it fast enough when you really need it. That’s why it’s so important to learn\, understand\, and practice effective techniques for using a holster properly. Holster work is often neglected in firearms training\, because everyone is anxious to get to the “fun part” – making loud noises and admiring our fancy marksmanship. But before you can find your front sight\, you’ve got to get your gun! This session will teach the four-step method of handgun presentation from concealment\, specifically for practical defensive contexts. We’ll do lots of reps\, both dry and live\, to habituate the steps required to access a holstered handgun reliably\, efficiently\, and safely. We’ll also discuss the pros and cons of several different carry methods to help each attendee make informed decisions about how she can best incorporate concealed carry into her everyday routine.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Conference Details” tab_id=”section-conference-details”][vc_column_text]The A Girl & A Gun National Conference brings together over 400 women and dozens of talented firearms instructors from across the country every year. Its purpose is to teach Tennessee handgun laws and ways to safely load\, unload\, and store a handgun. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. If you’re a firearms trainer\, a gun-industry product vendor\, or a Second Amendment advocate of any kind\, then you can’t afford to idle in your social or political comfort zone. Launched by Tom and Lynn Givens over twenty years ago\, the conference has grown into a busy three-day weekend featuring five concurrent tracks of classes in every defensive discipline. There are classroom seminars (non-shooting)\, live-fire blocks (pistol\, shotgun\, and rifle)\, hand-to-hand classes\, medical classes\, scenario-based force-on-force classes\, and much more. Difficulty levels range from beginner classes on basic fundamentals to advanced classes for experienced practitioners. This year\, Tac-Con will be held at the NOLATAC Training Center just outside of New Orleans\, LA. \nAll of the CSA Instructors have trained with Rangemaster. CSA instructors Aqil Qadir and Tiffany Johnson were both mentored by Tom and Lynn Givens and have taken almost every course Rangemaster offers.
