This course will provide details on what behaviors to look for and the proper steps to prevent an active shooter incident. Instructor candidates will learn to develop\, organize\, and teach a basic defense-oriented pistol curriculum in the paradigm of “gateway instruction” developed by Citizens Safety Academy.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nThis course teaches experienced shooters how to design\, organize\, and conduct a gateway (entry-level) pistol shooting course.  \nThere are many instructor certification courses available\, but most suffer from at least one of three common shortcomings. First\, they often spend too much time on shooting and not enough time on teaching how to teach. Second\, they often focus on teaching intermediate-level shooters without enough attention paid to the nuances of managing a class full of brand-new\, first-time shooters. Third\, many instructor courses tend to ignore the cultural and demographic dynamics of today’s market of firearms trainees.  \nWith the recent explosion of gun purchases by urbanites\, millennials\, trauma victims\, and others who don’t fit the traditional stereotypes of gun ownership\, firearms trainers must adapt to the rapidly-evolving 21st Century market. CSA developed what we call the “gateway” instructional model in an effort to fill those gaps in the training community.  \nInstructor candidates will learn and demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course (including leading a line of live-fire shooters through a course of fire). Candidates will also have to pass an instructor certification examination and a shooting qualification course of fire. We have found that many “beginner” classes on the market are often weighed down by assumptions and misperceptions about what new shooters typically bring with them. These classes often take for granted that every student has the same opinion about guns\, everyone has the same understanding of gun safety\, and everyone generally understands how guns work and what they’re used for. But that’s often not the case. \nAt CSA\, we take a different approach. Gateway instruction levels the playing field by allowing all students to enter the firearms training world without any pressure to know more than they know\, or to be someone they aren’t. One of the many benefits of this teaching technique (and the reason we call it “gateway instruction”) is that it greatly increases the chances of students investing in more training and becoming members of the training community\, rather than just visitors or sightseers. The goal is to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and mindset necessary to dominate and end an inescapable deadly assault\, and then successfully defend those actions in court.  \nTopics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for gaining advantage in life-threatening confrontations\nProper combative mindset and personal advantage tactics \nEffective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress\nRapid presentation from concealment\nHigh speed shooting at close ranges and precision accuracy at mid ranges\nRapid and reliable reloading and pistol malfunction clearing techniques \nShooting effectively with one hand\nShooting effectively with a cognitive load\nCombat anatomy considerations\nProper skill development and maintenance practices\n\nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state handgun carry permit class or other comparative pistol shooting class. You should also have some experience safely handling\, drawing and holstering a pistol. We recommend full or compact sized guns for this class. Sub-compact guns are much harder to shoot all day. A second gun like the first one is a good idea in case the first one breaks.\nA quality strong side hip or appendix holster – either form fitted leather or kydex\, the holster must completely cover the trigger guard\, allow a full firing grip with the gun in the holster and remain open while the gun is drawn. PLEASE NO flimsy nylon or cloth holsters.\nA quality belt\, purposely designed to securely attach the holster to the belt and support the weight of a fully loaded pistol.\nAbout 550-600 rounds of quality training ammunition. If you can bring more do so\nAT LEAST 3 magazines or speed loaders with appropriate belt pouches for the spare magazines. The more magazines you bring\, the better.\nClothing appropriate for concealing a firearm (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, over-shirt\, polo shirt\, etc.). Second\, they often focus on teaching intermediate-level shooters without enough attention paid to the nuances of managing a class full of brand-new\, first-time shooters. Third\, many instructor courses tend to ignore the cultural and demographic dynamics of today’s market of firearms trainees.  \nWith the recent explosion of gun purchases by urbanites\, millennials\, trauma victims\, and others who don’t fit the traditional stereotypes of gun ownership\, firearms trainers must adapt to the rapidly-evolving 21st Century market. CSA developed what we call the “gateway” instructional model in an effort to fill those gaps in the training community.  \nInstructor candidates will learn and demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course (including leading a line of live-fire shooters through a course of fire). Candidates will also have to pass an instructor certification examination and a shooting qualification course of fire. These classes often take for granted that every student has the same opinion about guns\, everyone has the same understanding of gun safety\, and everyone generally understands how guns work and what they’re used for. But that’s often not the case. \nAt CSA\, we take a different approach. Gateway instruction levels the playing field by allowing all students to enter the firearms training world without any pressure to know more than they know\, or to be someone they aren’t. One of the many benefits of this teaching technique (and the reason we call it “gateway instruction”) is that it greatly increases the chances of students investing in more training and becoming members of the training community\, rather than just visitors or sightseers. This course is designed expressly for the armed citizen who carries a concealed handgun\, or the plain clothes or off-duty police officer. \nThis class is intended for true intermediate (or higher) level students. If you have not had formal training in how to work from a holster safely\, this coursework may not be for you yet. There will be a skills assessment early on to determine whether or not the student has the requisite skills to participate safely in this course. \nTopics covered in this course will include: \n\nEngaging targets at very close ranges\nDrawing and shooting one handed\nEngaging animated threats\nShooting with a cognitive load\nUnderstanding and using cover\nEngaging targets beyond “normal” pistol ranges\nEffective movement and shooting\nEffective use of cover\n\nYou will need a good handgun\, holster\, belt\, and magazine pouch\, at least three magazines\, a ball cap and concealment garment (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, etc)\, and eye and ear protection. Expect to fire about 600 rounds of ammunition. Also bring a cooler with soft drinks\, water\, snacks. The range has a great barbecue restaurant inside. The goal is to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and mindset necessary to dominate and end an inescapable deadly assault\, and then successfully defend those actions in court. \nTopics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for gaining advantage in life-threatening confrontations\nProper defensive mindset and personal tactics\nConcealing a pistol properly and clothing considerations\nEffective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress\nRapid presentation from concealed carry during an attack (and safely concealing it)\nHigh speed accuracy at close ranges and precision shooting at mid ranges\nRapidly and reliably fixing pistol malfunctions and reloading techniques\nTactical anatomy\nProper skill development practices\n\nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state handgun carry permit class. This course is designed expressly for the armed citizen who carries a concealed handgun\, or the plain clothes or off-duty police officer. The goal is to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and mindset necessary to dominate and end an inescapable deadly assault\, and then successfully defend those actions in court.  \nTopics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for gaining advantage in life-threatening confrontations\nProper defensive mindset and personal tactics \nConcealing a pistol properly and clothing considerations\nEffective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress\nRapid presentation from concealed carry during an attack (and safely concealing it)\nHigh speed accuracy at close ranges and precision shooting at mid ranges\nRapidly and reliably fixing pistol malfunctions and reloading techniques \nShooting effectively with one hand\nShooting effectively with a cognitive load\nTactical anatomy \nProper skill development practices\n\nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state handgun carry permit class or other comparative pistol shooting class. You should also have some experience safely handling\, drawing and holstering a pistol. If you have questions about suitability of the course\, please email us at info@CitizensSafety.com or text us at 615-801-8007.  \nStudents who complete the course will receive a completion certificate.  \nWhat you will need to take the course: \n\nA quality pistol recommend minimum of 9mm or .38 Special. We recommend full or compact sized guns for this class. Sub-compact guns are much harder to shoot all day. A second gun like the first one is a good idea in case the first one breaks.\nA quality strong side hip or appendix holster – either form fitted leather or kydex\, the holster must completely cover the trigger guard\, allow a full firing grip with the gun in the holster and remain open while the gun is drawn. PLEASE NO flimsy nylon or cloth holsters.\nA quality belt\, purposely designed to securely attach the holster to the belt and support the weight of a fully loaded pistol.\nAbout 550-600 rounds of quality training ammunition. If you can bring more do so\nAT LEAST 3 magazines or speed loaders with appropriate belt pouches for the spare magazines. The more magazines you bring\, the better.\nClothing appropriate for concealing a firearm (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, over-shirt\, polo shirt\, etc.). Holsters must be worn concealed. \nEye protection and hearing protection (we recommend electronic) and we recommend a ball cap or brimmed hat to keep brass from going behind your eye protection. \nComfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.\nRain gear (we train rain or shine)\, bug repellant\, and sun screen if necessary.\nA cooler with soft drinks\, water\, snacks and lunch will be needed\, for lunch on site.
