SUMMARY:Agile Tactical Pistol (Chuck Haggard)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]CSA is excited to welcome Chuck Haggard of Agile Training and Consulting for this custom-designed course on techniques and tactics of using a concealed carry firearm in self-defense.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nFrom Chuck Haggard:\nThis course is a one day distillation of the critical pistol skills that I have been teaching cops\, military\, and concealed carry/average earth people for a number of years. \nThis course will cover the tactical use of the semi auto pistol from close contact out to 25 yards\, and the critical skills proven over the course of many years that are required to prevail in a fight AND pass review in court after the event. \nSubject matter covered includes; \nGrips\, sights\, trigger\, and the interplay require to make fast and accurate hits at various ranges \nRecoil control \nDraw stroke \nMalfunctions\, the causes\, and mitigation\, TTPs required to stay in the fight \nAlternative emergency sighting methods \nReloads \nOne and two handed shooting \nClose quarters shooting techniques \nGetting hits at distance \nTactical anatomy and the real world levels of accuracy required to achieve fight stopping hits \nThis class will include a recognized and scored law enforcement qualification course at the end \n  \nStudent requirements; \nThis is NOT a basic handgun course. Students should already have enough training and experience to safely draw from a holster and be aware of muzzle direction/trigger finger. \nA safe and reliable semi auto pistol\, making sure it’s cleaned and lubricated ahead of time is a smart move\, if you are using an optic please make sure you have fresh or spare batteries \nStudents may work from concealment or from open carry/duty belt as they choose. \nA safe holster. This can be inside or outside the waistband. However the holster MUST allow reholstering repeatedly through the course\, so soft leather or hybrid holsters (such as the popular Crossbreed) holsters that collapse are unsafe and unsuitable for the class. \nSerpa holsters (and other such holsters that use a trigger finger to release the retention mechanism) are not allowed unless the student is a law enforcement officer using an issued duty style Serpa holster AND is required by agency policy to use this holster. \nClear eye protection (this is an indoor range) and hearing protection \nAt least three magazines for double stack pistols\, six for single stack pistols such as 1911s\, magazine pouch or pouches to allow at least one magazine to be reloaded quickly during specific drills (but two is better) \n500 rounds of quality ammunition (this is not the time to save money and try out your Uncle Cheech’s reloaded garlic soaked heat seekers in order to save money\, unreliable ammo will leave you both consistently behind and unhappy[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor Chuck Haggard” tab_id=”chuck-haggard”][vc_column_text]Chuck Haggard has been active in private defensive training throughout his long career in urban law enforcement. SUMMARY:OC Spray: Instructor Certification Course (Chuck Haggard)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]CSA is excited to welcome Chuck Haggard of Agile Training and Consulting for this unique one-day instructor certification course on OC spray and other less lethal tools. Chuck is nationally renown for his decades of experience with defensive use of oleoresin capsicum (O.C. spray or pepper spray). He personally designed this instructor course for private citizens who carry pepper spray regularly and aspire to teach others how best to utilize this essential tool.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nFrom Chuck Haggard:\nThis class was created as an instructor-level course for covering the subject of less-than-lethal options for non-cops/CCW carriers\, off-duty cops\, and security guards. This class is suitable for anyone wanting to take a deep dive into the subject of avoiding being the victim of a street crime\, or folks who are CCW or firearms instructors and who want to expand their knowledge base beyond the gun. \nAs I have noted in my short blocks on this subject at the Rangemaster Tactical Conference\, we should have options between “a harsh word and a gun.” \n\nThis class will run 8-10 hours\, depending on student numbers\, due to the extensive amount of drilling and material presented.\nThis course will cover the subject of less than deadly force defensive tools and tactics\, with an emphasis on OC spray as a defensive tool.\nAlso addressed are ways to avoid becoming a crime victim\, tactics of the street criminal\, and the MUC paradigm (Craig Douglas‘s concept of Managing Unknown Contacts).\nWe’ll also cover how less-than-lethal weapons come into play for avoiding becoming a victim of violent crime\, de-escalation tactics\, verbal agility\, transitioning to deadly force (if appropriate)\, product selection\, low light issues\, and interactive student scenario/skills drills.\n\nStudents will need to bring a dummy pistol and holster (if they are a CCW carrier\, instructor\, etc.) in order to fully participate in all of the drills. Otherwise only note taking materials are required. \nThere will be no live OC spray used in this training\, only inert training spray units.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor Chuck Haggard” tab_id=”chuck-haggard”][vc_column_text]Chuck Haggard has been active in private defensive training throughout his long career in urban law enforcement. SUMMARY:OC Spray and Street Encounter Skills (Chuck Haggard)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]CSA is excited to welcome Chuck Haggard of Agile Training and Consulting for three separate classes over the course of one weekend in July. This Friday night class starts off the weekend and introduces attendees to simple techniques for avoiding crime and victimization. Chuck is nationally renown for his decades of experience with defensive use of oleoresin capsicum (O.C. spray or pepper spray). He designed this course for private citizens who want to have other tools in their tool chest besides guns.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nFrom Chuck Haggard:\nIn this three-hour class\, will we will be covering ways to effectively use OC spray\, how to select a quality product\, which spray to choose for YOUR needs\, and techniques to maximize OC’s effect. I’ll also discuss recognizing pre-criminal assault behavior\, avoiding being a victim\, and the “MUC” (Managing Unknown Contacts) paradigm (popularized by Craig Douglas of ShivWorks). \nThis class is great for people who do not carry a gun regularly or for those who just want to have mid-level defensive options that fall somewhere “between a harsh word and a gun” (h/t to Tamara Keel of View from the Porch). Other topics include non-lethal-versus-lethal-force decision making and home defense tools besides firearms (excellent information for teens\, college students\, or anyone who lives in a gun-free household).[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor Chuck Haggard” tab_id=”chuck-haggard”][vc_column_text]Chuck Haggard has been active in private defensive training throughout his long career in urban law enforcement. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]CSA is excited to welcome John Murphy of FPF Training\, who is traveling from Northern Virginia to offer his flagship course\, Concealed Carry: Street Encounter Skills and Tactics. In this immersive two-day class\, John starts by sharpening fundamental pistol and holster skills\, and then he uses practical exercises test students’ skills in realistic decision-making contexts.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nConcealed Carry: Street Encounter Skills and Tactics is a 2.5 day\, 24-hour course designed to inform and instruct lawfully armed citizens in their defensive decisions and equip them with realistic skills that enable an effective and lawful approach to personal security. Employing a highly dynamic combination of lecture\, demonstration\, and practical application\, the course goes past the concentration on shooting skills that most concealed carry classes focus on and provides a combination of “hard” and “soft” skills and strategies “beyond the gun” that opens minds and options for armed citizens. \nThe class consists of four hours of “view ahead” video content\, followed by four hours of lecture and practical application on Saturday\, and then six hours of intensive pistol skills. Sunday is 100% range time incorporating those lessons in a challenging and PRACTICAL live fire environment. Your mind will be educated on how to use your mind\, mouth\, your feet to achieve situationally appropriate de-escalation or use of force. \nSpecific course content and methodology relies heavily on incorporating the science of “Recognition Primed Decisions”\, deriving lessons from security videos of actual events and honing the skills most needed by ordinary people that find themselves in extraordinary circumstances. \nCovered Topics: \n\nDeveloping the defensive mindset and decision-making process\nTactics and techniques to support the Awareness\, Avoidance\, De-Escalation\, Evasion paradigm\nConflict Communications\nPre-Incident criminal behavior\, Managing Unknown Contacts (Credit to Craig Douglas)\nEmploying pepper spray (every student will be supplied with two pepper spray trainers)\nStopping bleeding with pressure dressings and tourniquets\nShooting in 3D: Pistol ballistics and tactical anatomy considerations\nShooting drills and skills derived from incidents involving armed citizens\nDecisive Movement\nMuch more that you won’t learn in other classes!\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor John Murphy” tab_id=”john-murphy”][vc_column_text]John Murphy has been instructing civilian concealed carry classes for over fifteen years and has trained under some of the most respected firearms instructors in the country\, incorporating the best and most practical methods and techniques into his courses.
Dr. House will be teaching an extended (eight-hour) version of his flagship course on hemorrhage control. What will you do if someone suffers a severe injury and first responders haven’t arrived yet? He also has invaluable knowledge and skills that far too many defensive trainers lack: medical expertise. As a practicing dentist and experienced medical provider\, Dr. House is the perfect person to teach the basics of civilian trauma care. That’s why we are so excited to host him as a guest instructor. Below is the course description Dr. House provided: \nThis eight-hour course is designed to prepare the civilian defender to deal with the inevitable eventuality of stopping life-threatening bleeding. With the ever-increasing frequency of worldwide terror events\, active killers\, workplace violence incidents\, and motor vehicle collisions\, knowing the proper techniques\, tactics\, and procedures to keep yourself and your family\, friends\, parishioners\, students and fellow countrymen alive until a higher level of medical care can reach you is essential! This course will prepare you for unexpected (but not unplanned-for) emergencies. \nIn the first half of this course\, Sherman will cover the basic skills\, techniques\, and equipment needed for hemorrhage control. The second half will involve practical exercises to help attendees apply those skills under pressure. For more information on what to expect in this course\, please see Dr. House’s blog\, where he provides a detailed write-up (click here to view).[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”About the Guest Instructor” tab_id=”about-dr-house”][vc_column_text]Dr. Sherman A. SUMMARY:Image Based Decisional Drills "The Class" (Brian Hill)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]CSA is excited to welcome Brian Hill of the Complete Combatant\, and his ground-breaking Image Based Decisional Drills class where he uses dry fire exercises to help in making lethal versus non-lethal decisions quickly and with good outcomes.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nCourse Description:\nImage Based Decisional Drills “THE CLASS” can be DRY PRACTICE or LIVE FIRE. \nYOUR class is RDY PRACTICE (SIRT) ONLY! \nPeople carry a lot of gear but gear does not solve the problem….YOU do. \nThere are very few dry practice or range exercises for the private citizen that focus on making lethal\, less than lethal and non lethal decisions quickly. Our 4 hour Image Based Decisional Drill CLASSES are intended to fill in the gap in learning how to make decisions using images to provoke a response\, decide which TOOL to use\, and then ACT on that decision. From the time that a bad guy chooses you\, you will have a very limited amount of time to make a decision. THEY choose how and when. Your actions need to be confident\, quick and decisive. \nIn all scenarios the image is happening to YOU\, in front of YOU\, beside YOU or behind YOU. YOU are your first responder and decisions need to be made quickly. Our Image Based Decisional Drill instructors are more like “guides” to help you before\, during but MOSTLY AFTER you have worked through your scenario. \nBENEFITS: \n\nClassroom\, = dry practice\nPressure testing under realistic time constraints with feedback for improvement.\nVisual cueing\nPre-need decision making\nTool cycling\nDistance management\nStrategy changes\n\nAll levels of experience are welcome. The benefits are the same for everybody. The more experience you have\, the more “tools” can be introduced. If you have training in additional areas of self protection like jacks\, saps\, edged weapons\, etc. then add these to your scenario. Also\, your cognitive stacking may be quicker and easier so challenge yourself![/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor Brian Hill” tab_id=”brian-hill”][vc_column_text] \nBrian Hill is the founder of the Complete Combatant\, which focuses exclusively on training armed citizens to meet the challenges of defending themselves. SUMMARY:Hemorrhage Arrest Course (HAC): 8-Hour
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Citizens Safety Academy is pleased to host the one and only Dr. Sherman House of the Civilian Defender. Dr. House will be teaching an extended (eight-hour) version of his flagship course on hemorrhage control. What will you do if someone suffers a severe injury and first responders haven’t arrived yet? This course gives you the tools to manage precisely that scenario.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]Dr. Sherman House is a long-time student of personal defense and a top-quality trainer in his own right. Sherman A. House is currently in his second decade as a healthcare provider and is a Hospital Dentist and Reserve Police Officer in TN. Prior to his career in dentistry\, Dr. House was a Fireman and Emergency Medical Technician in Washington State. Concurrently\, he was a Shotgun Messenger for several West Coast Armored Truck companies. He participated in security operations at the 1999 WTO Riots in Seattle WA. He holds undergraduate degrees in Law Enforcement\, Cell Biology\, and Philosophy from Gonzaga University. He completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the Meharry Medical College with Honors in Nashville TN. He earned a Hospital Dentistry Certificate as the Chief Resident from the Metro General Hospital also in Nashville. \nDr. House is the originator of the CIVILIAN DEFENDER training concept. He has personally saved lives using CPR\, Rescue Breathing\, AED\, TCCC\, ACLS\, PHTLS and Heimlich Manuever techniques. He has studied extensively in the defensive arts\, both armed and unarmed\, as well as self-defense law\, emergency medicine\, criminal psychology\, tactical driving\, and other survival skills He has earned training certificates from the following instructors (among others): \n\nTom and Lynn Givens (Rangemaster-Certified Pistol AND Shotgun Instructor)\nPaul Gomez (Fighting Shotgun)\nJames Yeager (Inaugural Tactical Response Instructor Class Graduate)\nGabe White (Light Pin and Dark Pin Winner)\nJohn Farnam (DTI Instructor)\nGreg Sullivan (AR Armorer)\nRob Edwards (Fighting Pistol)\nJohn Chapman (Fighting Rifle)\nAaron Little (Fighting Rifle)\nDr. William Aprill\nMassad Ayoob (MAG20)\nLarry Vickers (AK Operator)\nLee Weems (Pistol and Shotgun)\nDave Spaulding (Combative Pistol)\nAndrew Branca (Law of Self Defense\, TN/KY)\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Gear List” tab_id=”hac-gear-list”][vc_column_text]Students in Dr. House’s Hemorrhage Arrest Course should bring the following items to class (click the links to purchase online if necessary\, or contact us for more information on equipment needed for the course): \n\nYour current medical kit or bag (if you have one)\nPen and paper for note taking\nClothing you don’t care about (that can be cut up… trousers and a t-shirt)\nThe Civilian Defender IFAK (click here to purchase). This kit contains all of the following:\n\nH-Bandage (flat fold)\nCompressed Krinkle Gauze (4.5″ x 4.1 yards)\nGen-7 CAT Tourniquet (black or orange)\nCompact HyFin Chest Seal (2-pack)\nGloves\n\n\n\nA Note from Dr. House: \nI receive no compensation from you purchasing the Civilian Defender IFAK. I’ve merely partnered with a Veteran-owned business to supply the life-safety equipment for my courses\, as there has been a rash of phony\, fugazi\, “Airsoft\,” grade counterfeit medical products on Amazon. While you can certainly buy the components of the kit “a la carte\,” the cost of the kit is quite reasonable and convenient. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Register Now” tab_id=”section-register-now”][vc_column_text]The price for this class is $185. SUMMARY:Critical Pistol Skills (Lee Weems)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For this class\, Citizens Safety Academy is proud to host a longtime friend and colleague\, Lee Weems of Georgia-based First Person Safety. Lee will teach students how to safely operate their pistols through a progression of freestyle\, dominant hand only\, and non-dominant hand drills.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nCourse Content: \nThis 300 round course develops the skills needed to successfully operate a pistol with either hand. Students will learn through a progression of freestyle and dominant hand only drills to ultimately draw\, reload\, and clear malfunctions using only their non-dominant hand. It is much more convenient to learn how to do this on the range than to have to figure it out under incoming fire. \nPrerequisites: \nThis is not a course for the first time student. Enrollment is limited to students who have already completed training from a recognized instructor that included drawing\, reloading\, etc\, under time constraints. Graduates from a law enforcement academy\, IDPA Sharpshooter class or USPSA C-class shooters or higher will also be accepted. Other students may be admitted with approval from the instructor. Please don’t hesitate to ask. \nPlease contact lee@firstpersonsafety.com if you have any inquiries.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor Lee Weems” tab_id=”lee-weems”][vc_column_text]Lee Weems has been a peace officer since January of 1999 and has served as a patrol officer\, field training officer\, detective\, supervisor\, and Chief Deputy.  He has been sworn at the local\, state\, and federal levels\, and he is an adjunct instructor on the collegiate level.  He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (GALEFI) and is certified by GALEFI as a Master Firearms Instructor.  He is certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) as a general topics and firearms instructor and is a graduate of the FBI’s Law Enforcement Instructor and Police Firearms Instructor training programs. \nA more complete biography is available on the First Person Safety webpage. \n***First Person Safety is a registered trade name of Proficient Strategies\, LLC.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Equipment” tab_id=”1570750342799-d79e07e8-b3d8″][vc_column_text]You will need a quality semi-automatic pistol and ammunition that will function in your pistol. SUMMARY:Get a Grip: Hand Health for Defensive Shooters
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Are you suffering from an inconsistent grip? Do you sometimes adjust your hands and fingers while shooting? Have you ever wondered if a different grip technique might improve your marksmanship? Join us for this unique skill-builder with Gil and Maria — two excellent shooters and great friends of CSA who also happen to be experts hand health.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”course-details”][vc_column_text]Of all the fundamentals of pistol shooting\, the grip is sometimes the most neglected\, even though it can drastically affect both sight alignment and trigger control. Renowned defensive firearms trainer Paul Gomez sometimes told his students that while your pistol sights can help refine your marksmanship\, you actually do the bulk of aiming with your grip. \nThat’s why CSA is so excited to host two grip strength experts for a clinic focusing on improving grip and hold control for pistol shooting. This clinic will also cover some strategies for addressing imbalances in the hands\, wrists\, forearms\, and shoulders from repetitive shooting motions and positions. Joint health\, all the way up the chain\, is an integral piece of having a strong and steady grip. \nGuest Instructors Maria Bascetta and Gil Goodman bring years of expertise in the fitness and strength training world\, with a particular focus on hand health and grip technique. Improve your sight alignment consistency\, recoil control\, follow through speed\, and overall marksmanship. Walk away with tips\, tricks\, and information to help you on your journey to better hand fitness.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructors” tab_id=”guest-instructors”][vc_column_text]\nGil Goodman\nBarrel Strength Systems\nGil is a World Champion grip-sport competitor\, a strength trainer\, and the founder of Barrel Strength Systems in Nashville\, TN.
