SUMMARY:NRA Shotgun Instructor Certification Course

Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Shotgun curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises\, student-teaching\, and a written exam. Here’s a bit more about Mike Bain\, from the Defensive Specialties website. \nJohn “Mike” Bain is the owner of Defensive Specialties\, LLC. He is an NRA Training Counselor & Chief Range Safety Officer\, Regional Counselor for the NRA’s Refuse to be a Victim® Program & a State-Licensed Instructor for Georgia’s Armed & Unarmed Security Officers & Private Investigators. Disciplines he teaches include Tactical Shooting\, Pistol\, Rifle\, Shotgun\, Personal Protection Inside the Home\, Personal Protection Outside the Home\, Defensive Pistol\, Metallic & Shotgun Shell Reloading\, and Muzzleloading. He is certified as an NRA Law Enforcement Instructor for Pistol & Shotgun. Mike holds NRA Distinguished Expert ratings in both pistol & rifle. \nHis background includes 14 years in law enforcement & the military to include the Alabama State Patrol\, Mississippi State Harbor Police\, & as a US Army Military Policeman. While in the US Army\, he also served with the 63rd Chemical Company as an Assistant Squad Leader. Difficulty levels range from beginner classes on basic fundamentals to advanced classes for experienced practitioners. This year\, Tac-Con will be held at the NOLATAC Training Center just outside of New Orleans\, LA. \nAll of the CSA Instructors have trained with Rangemaster. Successful candidates are also eligible to apply to become Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Instructors or Mississippi Enhanced Permit Instructors. Lively\, interactive classroom instruction will take place in a comfortable\, modern\, temperature-controlled meeting space; and the live-fire portion will be conducted on a convenient outdoor range not far away. All students will need a reliable pistol and approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Ammo can also be purchased from CSA with advance notice. \nPlease note that this is not a shooting class. Instructor candidates are expected to have already mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship. Or a student who doesn’t follow directions? Or one who is unsafe\, chatty\, inattentive\, physically compromised\, or just plain terrified? What is the assistant instructor’s role\, and how is it different from the lead instructor\, or the range safety officer\, or the one-on-one coach? This instructor course teaches the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude essential to organizing\, promoting\, and teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises\, student-teaching\, a shooting qualification drill\, and a written exam. This course does not teach people how to shoot (instructor candidates should already be well-versed in the fundamentals of marksmanship). During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students.
