Private security work in Tennessee is governed by the Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act (Title 62\, chapter 35 of the Tennessee Code). It’s regulated by the Department of Commerce and Insurance\, which administers the application process. One requirement for new applicants is 4 hours of specialized training. Enrollment is closed to the general public. Those who were pre-selected by the NAAGA leadership to attend this course will be provided with an access code to reveal the registration form. Concealed defensive holsters are welcome (if you are legally permitted to carry concealed)\, but we will not be using holsters for the range portion of the class. Expect to use no more than 300 rounds of ammunition over the course of the weekend. Defensive calibers (at least 9mm) are required for all qualification drills. Candidates will need: \n\nAn open mind and willingness to learn\nReliable handgun in a service caliber\, .38 sp/9mm or larger. (You can bring a .22 caliber pistol for the drills in the basic class to save money\, but the qualification courses must be shot using service caliber ammunition).\n200 rounds of ammo in a service caliber for the instructor course\nAnother 100 rounds for the basic class (for a total of 300\, see above)\nEye and hearing protection (preferably electronic hearing protection)\nNotebook and pens or an electronic device (laptop/pad) for note taking\nComfortable clothing appropriate for shooting (indoor ranges can be cold)\, brimmed hat/cap\, trimmed fingernails. Being an effective assistant trainer requires more than just standing behind a row of shooters or loitering in the back of the classroom. How do you handle a nervous student? Or a student who doesn’t follow directions? Or one who is unsafe\, chatty\, inattentive\, physically compromised\, or just plain terrified? What is the assistant instructor’s role\, and how is it different from the lead instructor\, or the range safety officer\, or the one-on-one coach? In this class\, we’ll explore some useful tips\, skills\, and best practices that elevate the A.I. from just another person on the range to an indispensable part of the training team. \nNo ammunition is required for this class. All drills and exercises will be conducted in the classroom\, with dummy ammunition or blue guns used to simulate range instruction. We’ll focus on classroom management\, range preparation and set-up\, and general safety enforcement. If time permits\, we’ll also include practical exercises on firing line management.
