NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students will have some general familiarity with the five fundamentals of marksmanship. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants\, and this course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, Tennessee now has a new permit called the Concealed Handgun Carry permit\, and the NRA CCW class DOES satisfy the training requirement for Tennessee’s Concealed Handgun Carry permit. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. We will do our very best to be conservative with ammo consumption throughout this course. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants\, and this course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, Tennessee now has a new permit called the Concealed Handgun Carry permit\, and the NRA CCW class DOES satisfy the training requirement for Tennessee’s Concealed Handgun Carry permit. The course includes interactive classroom discussion\, dry-fire practice drills\, and live-fire exercises on the range. This is not a defensive course or a tactics course. Students will receive the NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook\, take a written exam\, and receive a course completion certificate. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. Developing the required skill takes more than one class\, it is a process that involves time\, instruction\, and structured practice. \nFor those who want to gain confidence and competence with their handgun we have the “After the Permit” series of courses\, ATP-1 and ATP-2.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]ATP-1 is a half-day course that continues where the TN Handgun Permit class ends. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. This is a very nice\, modern\, indoor range with lots of convenient amenities. This is the eight-hour safety course required by the State of Tennessee to obtain a Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit (EHCP). Tennessee does not require a permit to merely own a firearm (for example\, if you keep one in your home). However\, if you want to carry a firearm on your person out in public\, you’ll need a permit. There are lots of people advertising permit classes nowadays.
