The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. Its purpose is to teach Tennessee handgun laws and ways to safely load\, unload\, and store a handgun. Topics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for avoiding life-threatening confrontations\nDeveloping a defensive mindset for carrying and using a pistol for personal protection\nThe importance of carrying and using a pistol responsibly and ethically for personal protection\nHow the rules for safe gun-handling  apply to concealed carry\nConcealing a pistol properly and clothing considerations\nImproving your shooting skills for defensive use\nQuickly presenting a pistol during an attack (and safely concealing it again)\nUsing your pistol sights for fast and effective results\nFixing pistol malfunctions and reloading under stress\nCover and concealment\nMoving off the line of attack\nPsychological and physiological changes you may experience during an attack\, and how to deal with them\n\nStudents who complete the course will receive a certificate as proof of their training experience. Citizens Defensive Pistol also satisfies the learning objectives and qualifications for completion of the NRA Defensive Pistol course. \nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state Handgun Carry Permit class or the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting class. With the ever-increasing frequency of worldwide terror events\, active killers\, workplace violence incidents\, and motor vehicle collisions\, knowing the proper techniques\, tactics\, and procedures to keep yourself and your family\, friends\, parishioners\, students and fellow countrymen alive until a higher level of medical care can reach you is essential! This course will prepare you for unexpected (but not unplanned-for) emergencies. \nIn the first half of this course\, Sherman will cover the basic skills\, techniques\, and equipment needed for hemorrhage control. The second half will involve practical exercises to help attendees apply those skills under pressure. House is currently in his second decade as a healthcare provider and is a Hospital Dentist and Reserve Police Officer in TN. Prior to his career in dentistry\, Dr. House was a Fireman and Emergency Medical Technician in Washington State. Concurrently\, he was a Shotgun Messenger for several West Coast Armored Truck companies. He participated in security operations at the 1999 WTO Riots in Seattle WA. He holds undergraduate degrees in Law Enforcement\, Cell Biology\, and Philosophy from Gonzaga University. He completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the Meharry Medical College with Honors in Nashville TN. He earned a Hospital Dentistry Certificate as the Chief Resident from the Metro General Hospital also in Nashville. \nDr. House is the originator of the CIVILIAN DEFENDER training concept. He has personally saved lives using CPR\, Rescue Breathing\, AED\, TCCC\, ACLS\, PHTLS and Heimlich Manuever techniques. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Those skills can only come with time\, instruction\, and structured practice over more than one class. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. Developing the required skill takes more than one class\, it is a process that involves time\, instruction\, and structured practice. \nFor those who want to gain confidence and competence with their handgun we have the “After the Permit” series of courses\, ATP-1 and ATP-2.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]ATP-1 is a half-day course that continues where the TN Handgun Permit class ends. Those skills can only come with time\, instruction\, and structured practice over more than one class. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. Developing the required skill takes more than one class\, it is a process that involves time\, instruction\, and structured practice. \nFor those who want to gain confidence and competence with their handgun we have the “After the Permit” series of courses\, ATP-1 and ATP-2.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]ATP-1 is a half-day course that continues where the TN Handgun Permit class ends.
