SUMMARY:NRA CCW Instructor Certification Course
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The goal of the NRA CCW Instructor Certification Course is to equip firearms trainers with the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary to teach others how to safely and responsibly carry a concealed pistol for personal protection. NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. The lesson plans include the following topics (which instructor candidates will learn to teach): \n\nReview from NRA Basic Pistol or TN Handgun Carry Permit class\n\ngun safety rules\nproper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols\nFundamentals of marksmanship\nammunition knowledge and selection\n\n\nholster selection\ndifferent carry modes\ndrawing from a holster (open and concealed)\ndefensive mindset\ndefensive accuracy and flash sight picture\nemergency reloading\nmalfunction clearances\none-handed shooting\nshooting from moderate distances (10-15 yards)\nshooting with a timer\nand much more!\n\nThe course concludes with a written instructor candidate exam and a shooting qualification drill. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants\, and this course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, Tennessee now has a new permit called the Concealed Handgun Carry permit\, and the NRA CCW class DOES satisfy the training requirement for Tennessee’s Concealed Handgun Carry permit. The goal is to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and mindset necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically\, responsibly\, and with confidence.  \nTopics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for gaining advantage in life-threatening confrontations\nProper defensive mindset and personal tactics \nConcealing a pistol properly and clothing considerations\nEffective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress\nRapid presentation from concealed carry during an attack (and safely concealing it)\nHigh speed accuracy at close ranges and precision shooting at mid ranges\nRapidly and reliably fixing pistol malfunctions and reloading techniques \nShooting effectively with one hand\, with either hand\nTactical anatomy \nProper skill development practices \n\nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state Handgun Carry Permit class or another comparative pistol shooting class. You should also have some experience safely handling\, drawing and holstering a pistol. We recommend full or compact sized guns for this class. Sub-compact guns are much harder to shoot all day. A second gun like the first one is a good idea in case the first one breaks\nA quality strong side hip or appendix holster – either form fitted leather or kydex\, the holster must completely cover the trigger guard\, allow a full firing grip with the gun in the holster and remain open while the gun is drawn. PLEASE NO flimsy nylon or cloth holsters\nA quality Belt\, designed to securely attach the holster to the belt and support the weight of a fully loaded pistol\nAt least 300 rounds of quality factory ammunition suitable for practice. Bring more if you have it and we’ll have even more fun. \n3 magazines or speed loaders with 2 appropriate pouches for the spare magazines\nClothing appropriate for concealing a firearm (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, over-shirt\, polo shirt\, etc). Holsters must be worn concealed.\nEye protection and hearing protection (we recommend electronic) and a ball cap or brimmed hat to keep brass from going behind your eye protection. \nRain gear (we train rain or shine)\, bug dope\, and sun screen \nA cooler with soft drinks\, water\, snacks and lunch will be needed\, for lunch on site. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. This version is a total of four hours long and includes only the modules on safety\, holster basics\, and live-fire. That amounts to roughly two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of work on the range. After a review of the safety rules\, we’ll focus solely on developing safe techniques for drawing from the holster. Students should already be familiar with basic marksmanship an safe gun-handling.  \nSmall classes ensure low student-to-instructor ratios for lots of individualized attention. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students will have some general familiarity with the five fundamentals of marksmanship. However\, when we have CCW students who are brand new to shooting\, we will adjust the curriculum accordingly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can I use this class to get my carry permit?” tab_id=”ccw-class-for-carry-permit”][vc_column_text]Every state has its own rules for handgun carry permit issuance. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants\, and this course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, Tennessee now has a new permit called the Concealed Handgun Carry permit\, and the NRA CCW class DOES satisfy the training requirement for Tennessee’s Concealed Handgun Carry permit. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. This is not about defensive shooting or tactics. It’s also not a shooting course\, so we will not be teaching fundamentals or practicing marksmanship. Instructor candidates are presumed to already know how to shoot. During several mock teaching lessons called “teach-backs\,” instructor candidates will practice teaching assigned lessons in front of the group\, and we’ll offer constructive feedback. Through the teach-backs\, instructor candidates will demonstrate organizational skills\, public speaking skills\, and teaching skills via active participation\, including leading live-fire exercises on the range. Course modules include the following: \n\nTeaching rifle knowledge and nomenclature\nTeaching safe gun handling\nTeaching about rifle ammunition\nTeaching the fundamentals of rifle shooting\nBasic rifle instructional method\nManaging a line of basic rifle shooters on the range\nScoring targets\nTeaching how to select and maintain rifles\nConducting course examinations with basic rifle students\nand much more!\n\nInstructor candidates also must successfully complete the shooting qualification and the written exam. If you still need to take Basic Rifle\, we are offering that course the same weekend. \nThe NRA Rifle Instructor Certification does require Basic Instructor Training (BIT). However\, in this case\, our ten-hour instructional time does NOT include BIT. This is a semi-closed class\, and most of the participants already have BIT\, so we’re not offering BIT with the instructor training. SUMMARY:NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Certification Course (Memphis)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This course teaches experienced shooters how to organize\, promote\, and deliver the NRA’s flagship handgun course: Basics of Pistol Shooting. Many states also require this NRA instructor certification to authorize trainers to teach handgun carry permit classes. Class runs from 8am to 6pm both days\, with a short lunch break around midday.  \n Day 1 includes NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)\, utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. Instructor candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day 1 also ventures into the discipline-specific portion of the course\, where candidates are introduced to the Basic Pistol course outlines and lesson plans. \nDay 2 continues with more pistol instructor training. All candidates will teach several parts of the curriculum over the course of the day\, including live fire. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. There is a restaurant onsite at the range. \nThe class will take place at Top Gun Academy\, 2770 Whitten Road\, in Memphis\, TN. This is a very nice\, modern\, indoor range with lots of convenient amenities. Candidates who need to shoot the course multiple times will need more ammo\, so we advise everyone to bring about 100 rounds just to be safe.
