SUMMARY:NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (Memphis)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is intended for all individuals\, regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. In the classroom segment\, we’ll explore different concealment options and discuss the practical strengths and weaknesses of each. In the live-fire segment\, we’ll teach women how to present a concealed handgun on demand without sacrificing the marksmanship fundamentals they learned in their handgun carry permit class. \nTopics we’ll cover (time permitting): \n\nSafety\, safety\, safety!\nFundamentals of marksmanship (quick review)\nThe four-count draw (starting with dry work and progressing to live-fire)\nSafe re-holstering\nOpen carry versus concealed carry\nClosed-front and open-front concealment garments\nOn-body carry (hip/appendix/ankle holsters\, belly bands\, compression undergarments\, etc.) versus off-body carry (purses\, briefcases\, etc.)\nHolster selection (common options\, samples\, demos\, and pros/cons of each)\nSimple holster modifications to improve fit\, speed\, comfort\, and security\nCarrying with restrictive or fitted clothing\nSecuring firearms in non-permissive environments\nPractical considerations for ladies who carry\n\nLadies will need to bring their own handgun and holster. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants\, and this course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, Tennessee now has a new permit called the Concealed Handgun Carry permit\, and the NRA CCW class DOES satisfy the training requirement for Tennessee’s Concealed Handgun Carry permit. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students should have some general familiarity with the five fundamentals of marksmanship. If you’re not sure if you’re ready to draw from the holster\, please consider taking our NRA Basic Pistol class instead.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can I use this class to get my carry permit?” tab_id=”ccw-class-for-carry-permit”][vc_column_text]Every state has its own rules for handgun carry permit issuance. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for handgun carry permit applicants\, so the CCW course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, that might change in the coming months. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students. \nBefore attending the instructor course\, candidates will be required to provide proof that they have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students will have some general familiarity with the five fundamentals of marksmanship. However\, when we have CCW students who are brand new to shooting\, we will adjust the curriculum accordingly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can I use this class to get my carry permit?” tab_id=”ccw-class-for-carry-permit”][vc_column_text]Every state has its own rules for handgun carry permit issuance. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for handgun carry permit applicants\, so the CCW course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, that might change in the coming months. There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students should already have some general familiarity with the universal gun safety rules and the five fundamentals of marksmanship. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for handgun carry permit applicants\, so the CCW course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, that might change in the coming months. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. SUMMARY:NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is intended for all individuals\, regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. Whether you’re already an experienced shooter\, you’re looking for effective ways to discuss gun safety with your kids\, you’re hoping to overcome a fear guns\, or you just want a few hours of fun with like-minded ladies\, this clinic is for you. We’ll go over the fundamentals with an emphasis on safety rules\, and then we’ll relieve a little stress on the range. No judgment\, no pressure\, no intimidation\, no egos\, and no politics. Whether you’re interested in personal defense or taking up a new sport\, Women On Target® is a great primer. These clinics focus on firearm safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship\, giving you the tools and confidence to discuss\, handle\, or operate a firearm responsibly. \nNo experience is necessary for this class. We welcome teenagers\, great-grandmothers\, and everyone in between… as long as you’re a law-abiding female who is physically and mentally capable of following easy instructions and handling firearms safely. \nSorry guys\, but the Women On Target® clinics are available only to female participants. Women will enjoy this relaxed and friendly environment\, whether it’s your first time handling a gun or you’re hoping to dust off existing skills with a little refresher. We typically fire up to 50 rounds on the range\, but every class is tailored to accommodate the individual participants\, and no two classes are alike. You’re welcome to bring your own handgun or borrow one of ours. If you need a handgun or ammunition (no holsters involved in this class)\, please contact us in advance to let us know.
