NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. Whereas Basic Pistol focuses on safety and pure marksmanship fundamentals\, the CCW course puts those fundamental skills into a defensive context. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students will have some general familiarity with the five fundamentals of marksmanship. However\, when we have CCW students who are brand new to shooting\, we will adjust the curriculum accordingly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can I use this class to get my carry permit?” tab_id=”ccw-class-for-carry-permit”][vc_column_text]Every state has its own rules for handgun carry permit issuance. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for handgun carry permit applicants\, so the CCW course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, that might change in the coming months. NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students should already have some general familiarity with the universal gun safety rules and the five fundamentals of marksmanship. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for handgun carry permit applicants\, so the CCW course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, that might change in the coming months. We welcome teenagers\, great-grandmothers\, and everyone in between… as long as you’re a law-abiding female who is physically and mentally capable of following easy instructions and handling firearms safely. \nSorry guys\, but the Women On Target® clinics are available only to female participants. Women will enjoy this relaxed and friendly environment\, whether it’s your first time handling a gun or you’re hoping to dust off existing skills with a little refresher. We typically fire around 50 to 75 rounds on the range\, but every class is tailored to accommodate the individual participants\, and no two classes are alike. Successful candidates are also eligible to apply to become Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Instructors or Mississippi Enhanced Permit Instructors. Lively\, interactive classroom instruction will take place in a comfortable\, modern\, temperature-controlled meeting space; and the live-fire portion will be conducted on a convenient outdoor range not far away. All students will need a reliable pistol and approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Ammo can also be purchased from CSA with advance notice. \nPlease note that this is not a shooting class. Instructor candidates are expected to have already mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship. Instead\, this course is designed to teach experienced shooters how to teach others to shoot accurately and safely. \n\nDay 1: Saturday\, January 19\, 2019\, from 1pm to 7pm (with short breaks on the hour)\nDay 2: Sunday\, January 20\, 2019\, from 8am to 7pm (with a one-hour lunch break and short breaks on the hour)\n\nDay one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)\, utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also typically includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises\, student-teaching\, a shooting qualification drill\, and a written exam. This course does not teach people how to shoot (instructor candidates should already be well-versed in the fundamentals of marksmanship). Live-fire lessons will be conducted on a convenient outdoor range at the same facility. \nDay one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)\, utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. Candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students. Each candidate will need approximately 100 rounds of ammunition and a reliable handgun. \nBefore attending the instructor course\, candidates will be required to provide proof that they have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course.
