DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][/vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][vc_column_text]The goal of the NRA CCW Course is to teach the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal protection. NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. This course is eight hours in length\, with a significant portion of the class spent on the range.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][/vc_tta_accordion][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]Some of the topics in the course include: \n\nReview from NRA Basic Pistol or TN Handgun Carry Permit class\n\ngun safety rules\nproper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols\nFundamentals of marksmanship\nammunition knowledge and selection\n\n\nholster selection\ndifferent carry modes\ndrawing from a holster (open and concealed)\ndefensive mindset\ndefensive accuracy and flash sight picture\nemergency reloading\nmalfunction clearances\none-handed shooting\nshooting from moderate distances (10-15 yards)\nshooting with a timer\nand much more!\n\nSmall classes ensure low student-to-instructor ratios for lots of individualized attention. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. Our patient instructors will be there to assist students every step of the way in a comfortable\, non-intimidating environment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Equipment List” tab_id=”equipment”][vc_column_text]Students will need: \n\na quality defensive handgun\na properly-fitted holster and belt\nat least two extra magazines or speed-loaders (and a method of carrying them on your person)\nroughly 150 rounds of ammunition\na cover garment for concealment\nanything you need to keep yourself comfortable in the elements (we’ll spend several hours on an outdoor range)\n\nIf you don’t yet have a handgun or holster\, we can lend you one of ours for this course (however\, if you plan to continue on to the CCW Instructor course\, you should have your own gear). Students may also purchase ammunition from us if necessary. Feel free to contact us for questions about equipment requirements\, and please let us know in advance if you will need to borrow equipment or purchase ammo. \nNote on Ammo:\nWe are mindful of the current ammunition shortage. We will do our very best to be conservative with ammo consumption throughout this course. Whereas Basic Pistol focuses on safety and pure marksmanship fundamentals\, the CCW course puts those fundamental skills into a defensive context. This course is ideal for those who intend to carry a concealed handgun on their person\, outside of the home. \nThere will be some review of general marksmanship (sight alignment\, trigger control\, etc.)\, but the primary focus of NRA CCW is defensive mindset and concealed carry techniques (presentation from a holster). There is no prerequisite for this class\, but typically students will have some general familiarity with the five fundamentals of marksmanship. However\, when we have CCW students who are brand new to shooting\, we will adjust the curriculum accordingly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can I use this class to get my carry permit?” tab_id=”ccw-class-for-carry-permit”][vc_column_text]Every state has its own rules for handgun carry permit issuance. The NRA CCW class is designed to meet most states’ training requirements\, and many states do accept it\, but please do not make any assumptions. To find out for sure\, contact the proper officials in your state to verify whether the CCW course will satisfy that state’s training requirement. \nTennessee has designed its own training course specifically for Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants\, and this course is currently not accepted as a substitute. However\, Tennessee now has a new permit called the Concealed Handgun Carry permit\, and the NRA CCW class DOES satisfy the training requirement for Tennessee’s Concealed Handgun Carry permit. This is the eight-hour safety course required by the State of Tennessee to obtain a Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit (EHCP). Tennessee does not require a permit to merely own a firearm (for example\, if you keep one in your home). However\, if you want to carry a firearm on your person out in public\, you’ll need a permit. There are lots of people advertising permit classes nowadays. This is the eight-hour safety course required by the State of Tennessee to obtain a Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit (EHCP). Tennessee does not require a permit to merely own a firearm (for example\, if you keep one in your home). However\, if you want to carry a firearm on your person out in public\, you’ll need a permit. There are lots of people advertising permit classes nowadays. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Handgun permit training is a great start\, but it’s very basic\, focusing mostly on relevant statutes and safe handgun operation. It wasn’t created to teach you how to carry a handgun in public or use one to defend yourself from violent attack. Defending yourself with a handgun demands a level of skill. Developing the required skill takes more than one class\, it is a process that involves time\, instruction\, and structured practice. \nFor those who want to gain confidence and competence with their handgun we have the “After the Permit” series of courses\, ATP-1 and ATP-2.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]ATP-1 is a half-day course that continues where the TN Handgun Permit class ends. This is the eight-hour safety course required by the State of Tennessee to obtain a Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit (EHCP). Tennessee does not require a permit to merely own a firearm (for example\, if you keep one in your home). However\, if you want to carry a firearm on your person out in public\, you’ll need a permit. There are lots of people advertising permit classes nowadays. Many states also require this NRA instructor certification to authorize trainers to teach handgun carry permit classes. Instructor candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day 1 also ventures into the discipline-specific portion of the course\, where candidates are introduced to the Basic Pistol course outlines and lesson plans. \nDay 2 continues with more pistol instructor training. All candidates will teach several parts of the curriculum over the course of the day\, including live fire. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. This is the eight-hour safety course required by the State of Tennessee to obtain a Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit (EHCP). Tennessee does not require a permit to merely own a firearm (for example\, if you keep one in your home). However\, if you want to carry a firearm on your person out in public\, you’ll need a permit. There are lots of people advertising permit classes nowadays. This is the eight-hour safety course required by the State of Tennessee to obtain a Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit (EHCP). Tennessee does not require a permit to merely own a firearm (for example\, if you keep one in your home). However\, if you want to carry a firearm on your person out in public\, you’ll need a permit. There are lots of people advertising permit classes nowadays.
