SUMMARY:How to Be an Effective Assistant Instructor

Equally important but less often recognized is the role of the assistant instructor. Being an effective assistant trainer requires more than just standing behind a row of shooters or loitering in the back of the classroom. How do you handle a nervous student? Or a student who doesn’t follow directions? Or one who is unsafe\, chatty\, inattentive\, physically compromised\, or just plain terrified? What is the assistant instructor’s role\, and how is it different from the lead instructor\, or the range safety officer\, or the one-on-one coach? In this class\, we’ll explore some useful tips\, skills\, and best practices that elevate the A.I. from just another person on the range to an indispensable part of the training team. \nNo ammunition is required for this class. All drills and exercises will be conducted in the classroom\, with dummy ammunition or blue guns used to simulate range instruction. In our last offering of this class\, we focused on classroom management\, range preparation and set-up\, and general safety enforcement. In this second iteration\, we’ll reinforce some of those lessons and move on to firing line management and and practical exercises. These clinics focus on firearm safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship\, giving you the tools and confidence to discuss\, handle\, or operate a firearm responsibly. \nNo experience is necessary for this class. We welcome teenagers\, great-grandmothers\, and everyone in between… as long as you’re a law-abiding female who is physically and mentally capable of following easy instructions and handling firearms safely. \nSorry guys\, but the Women On Target® clinics are available only to female participants. Women will enjoy this relaxed and friendly environment\, whether it’s your first time handling a gun or you’re hoping to dust off existing skills with a little refresher. We typically fire around 50 to 75 rounds on the range\, but every class is tailored to accommodate the individual participants\, and no two classes are alike. SUMMARY:NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Certification Course (Lakeland\, TN)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This course teaches the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude essential to organizing\, promoting\, and teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises\, student-teaching\, and a written exam.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]This is a two-day\, 16-hour course to certify students as NRA basic pistol instructors. Successful candidates are also eligible to apply to become Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Instructors or Mississippi Enhanced Permit Instructors. Lively\, interactive classroom instruction will take place in a comfortable\, modern\, temperature-controlled meeting space; and the live-fire portion will be conducted on a convenient outdoor range not far away. All students will need a reliable pistol and approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Ammo can also be purchased from CSA with advance notice. \nPlease note that this is not a shooting class. Instructor candidates are expected to have already mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship. Instead\, this course is designed to teach experienced shooters how to teach others to shoot accurately and safely. \n\nDay 1: Saturday\, January 19\, 2019\, from 1pm to 7pm (with short breaks on the hour)\nDay 2: Sunday\, January 20\, 2019\, from 8am to 7pm (with a one-hour lunch break and short breaks on the hour)\n\nDay one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)\, utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also typically includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students. \nBefore attending the instructor course\, candidates will be required to provide proof that they have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course. SUMMARY:NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (Lakeland\, TN)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is intended for all individuals\, regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. This is the traditional\, instructor-led course where students will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]This 8-hour class will be taught in two parts\, from 6pm to 10pm on Friday evening (Jan. 18th) and 8am to 12 noon on Saturday (Jan. 19th). Lively\, interactive classroom instruction will take place in a comfortable\, modern\, temperature-controlled meeting space; and the live-fire portion will be conducted on a convenient outdoor range not far away. All students will need a reliable pistol and approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. If you don’t have a pistol\, you can borrow one of ours (please contact us in advance to make arrangements). Ammo can also be purchased from CSA with advance notice. Some of the topics in the course include: \n\ngun safety rules\nproper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols\nammunition knowledge and selection\nselecting and storing a pistol\nfundamentals of shooting (marksmanship)\npistol inspection and maintenance\n\nSmall classes ensure low student-to-instructor ratios for lots of individualized attention.
