This course is designed expressly for the armed citizen who carries a concealed handgun\, or the plain clothes or off-duty police officer.  \nTopics covered in this course will include: \n\nEngaging targets at very close ranges\nDrawing and shooting one handed\nEngaging animated threats\nShooting with a cognitive load\nUnderstanding and using cover\nEngaging targets beyond “normal” pistol ranges\nEffective movement and shooting \n\nYou will need a good handgun\, holster\, belt\, and magazine pouch\, at least three magazines\, a ball cap and concealment garment (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, etc)\, and eye and ear protection. Expect to fire about 400 rounds of ammunition. Also bring a cooler with soft drinks\, water\, snacks. The range has a great barbecue restaurant inside. We welcome teenagers\, great-grandmothers\, and everyone in between… as long as you’re a law-abiding female who is physically and mentally capable of following easy instructions and handling firearms safely. \nSorry guys\, but the Women On Target® clinics are available only to female participants. Women will enjoy this relaxed and friendly environment\, whether it’s your first time handling a gun or you’re hoping to dust off existing skills with a little refresher. We typically fire around 50 rounds on the range\, but every class is tailored to accommodate the individual participants\, and no two classes are alike. NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. The lesson plans include the following topics (which instructor candidates will learn to teach): \n\nReview from NRA Basic Pistol or TN Handgun Carry Permit class\n\ngun safety rules\nproper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols\nFundamentals of marksmanship\nammunition knowledge and selection\n\n\nholster selection\ndifferent carry modes\ndrawing from a holster (open and concealed)\ndefensive mindset\ndefensive accuracy and flash sight picture\nemergency reloading\nmalfunction clearances\none-handed shooting\nshooting from moderate distances (10-15 yards)\nshooting with a timer\nand much more!\n\nThe course concludes with a written instructor candidate exam and a shooting qualification drill. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Expect to use no more than 300 rounds of ammunition over the course of the weekend. Defensive calibers (at least 9mm) are required for all qualification drills. Candidates will need: \n\nAn open mind and willingness to learn\nReliable handgun in a service caliber\, .38 sp/9mm or larger. Private security work in Tennessee is governed by the Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act (Title 62\, chapter 35 of the Tennessee Code). It’s regulated by the Department of Commerce and Insurance\, which administers the application process. One requirement for new applicants is 16 hours of specialized training. This course satisfies the training requirement imposed by Tenn. Code Ann. § 62-35-118 (b) for applicants seeking to earn an armed security registration card.  \nAs required by law\, this is a 16-hour course that includes 4 hours of unarmed guard training and 8 hours of classroom instruction with a focus on authority\, duties and legal responsibilities of security guards/officers\, use of force laws in Tennessee\, gun safety\, and proper selection of weapons and gear. The final 4 hours are spent in live fire training on the range. \nRange training includes hands-on time with weapons to improve mindset\, marksmanship\, and manipulation skills\, as well as defensive shooting tactics\, techniques\, and procedures.  \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Eligibility” tab_id=”eligibility”][vc_column_text]\nBelow are the eligibility requirements for an armed guard license (see Tenn. The goal is to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and mindset necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically\, responsibly\, and with confidence.  \nTopics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for gaining advantage in life-threatening confrontations\nProper defensive mindset and personal tactics \nConcealing a pistol properly and clothing considerations\nEffective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress\nRapid presentation from concealed carry during an attack (and safely concealing it)\nHigh speed accuracy at close ranges and precision shooting at mid ranges\nRapidly and reliably fixing pistol malfunctions and reloading techniques \nShooting effectively with one hand\, with either hand\nTactical anatomy \nProper skill development practices \n\nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state Handgun Carry Permit class or another comparative pistol shooting class. You should also have some experience safely handling\, drawing and holstering a pistol. We recommend full or compact sized guns for this class. Sub-compact guns are much harder to shoot all day. A second gun like the first one is a good idea in case the first one breaks\nA quality strong side hip or appendix holster – either form fitted leather or kydex\, the holster must completely cover the trigger guard\, allow a full firing grip with the gun in the holster and remain open while the gun is drawn. PLEASE NO flimsy nylon or cloth holsters\nA quality Belt\, designed to securely attach the holster to the belt and support the weight of a fully loaded pistol\nAt least 300 rounds of quality factory ammunition suitable for practice. Bring more if you have it and we’ll have even more fun. \n3 magazines or speed loaders with 2 appropriate pouches for the spare magazines\nClothing appropriate for concealing a firearm (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, over-shirt\, polo shirt\, etc). Private security work in Tennessee is governed by the Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act (Title 62\, chapter 35 of the Tennessee Code). It’s regulated by the Department of Commerce and Insurance\, which administers the application process. One requirement for new applicants is 16 hours of specialized training. Code Ann. § 62-35-118 (b) for applicants seeking to earn an armed security registration card.  \nAs required by law\, this is a 16-hour course that includes 4 hours of unarmed guard training and 8 hours of classroom instruction with a focus on authority\, duties and legal responsibilities of security guards/officers\, use of force laws in Tennessee\, gun safety\, and proper selection of weapons and gear. It is designed for people who have little or no experience with handguns\, or want a refresher.
