SUMMARY:NRA CCW Instructor Certification Course
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The goal of the NRA CCW Instructor Certification Course is to equip firearms trainers with the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary to teach others how to safely and responsibly carry a concealed pistol for personal protection. NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. The lesson plans include the following topics (which instructor candidates will learn to teach): \n\nReview from NRA Basic Pistol or TN Handgun Carry Permit class\n\ngun safety rules\nproper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols\nFundamentals of marksmanship\nammunition knowledge and selection\n\n\nholster selection\ndifferent carry modes\ndrawing from a holster (open and concealed)\ndefensive mindset\ndefensive accuracy and flash sight picture\nemergency reloading\nmalfunction clearances\none-handed shooting\nshooting from moderate distances (10-15 yards)\nshooting with a timer\nand much more!\n\nThe course concludes with a written instructor candidate exam and a shooting qualification drill. However\, if you would like to add the CCW instructor rating and you need to renew your BIT credentials\, please let us know. SUMMARY:NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Certification Course

Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises\, student-teaching\, and a written exam.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]This is a two-day course to certify students as NRA certified pistol instructors. \nDay one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)\, utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. During this part\, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures\, basic public speaking skills\, training methodology\, use of a training team and training aids\, organizing a course\, building a budget\, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification. \nDay two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion\, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Equipment List” tab_id=”equipment”][vc_column_text]For this class\, you’ll need: \n\nA reliable handgun (semi-auto or revolver\, 9mm or larger preferred\, but any caliber accepted)\nRoughly 100 rounds of ammunition (ammo usage will depend on how many times we need to shoot the 20-round qualification course\, so 100 rounds is a generous estimation).\nEye and ear protection\nProper attire\, applicable medications\, bug spray\, snack/water\, and other items to stay comfortable in the elements while on the outdoor range\nNote-taking materials for the classroom\nYour NRA number (if you’re a member – though membership is not required)\nAn open mind\nA positive attitude\n\nWe’ll send an email to all students within a week of class with more details on what to bring and what to expect. \nNote on Ammo:\nWe are mindful of the current ammunition shortage. Enrollment is closed to the general public. Those who were pre-selected by the NAAGA leadership to attend this course will be provided with an access code to reveal the registration form. All other details of the course will be sent directly to the registrants by email. We look forward to training with you![/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Equipment List” tab_id=”equipment”][vc_column_text]Instructor candidates will need a quality defensive handgun (not a competition gun or a hunting gun). Concealed defensive holsters are welcome (if you are legally permitted to carry concealed)\, but we will not be using holsters for the range portion of the class. Expect to use no more than 300 rounds of ammunition over the course of the weekend. Defensive calibers (at least 9mm) are required for all qualification drills. Candidates will need: \n\nAn open mind and willingness to learn\nReliable handgun in a service caliber\, .38 sp/9mm or larger. (You can bring a .22 caliber pistol for the drills in the basic class to save money\, but the qualification courses must be shot using service caliber ammunition).\n200 rounds of ammo in a service caliber for the instructor course\nAnother 100 rounds for the basic class (for a total of 300\, see above)\nEye and hearing protection (preferably electronic hearing protection)\nNotebook and pens or an electronic device (laptop/pad) for note taking\nComfortable clothing appropriate for shooting (indoor ranges can be cold)\, brimmed hat/cap\, trimmed fingernails. Second\, they often focus on teaching intermediate-level shooters without enough attention paid to the nuances of managing a class full of brand-new\, first-time shooters.  \nThird\, many instructor courses tend to ignore the cultural and demographic dynamics of today’s market of firearms trainees. With the recent explosion of gun purchases by urbanites\, millennials\, trauma victims\, and others who don’t fit the traditional stereotypes of gun ownership\, firearms trainers must adapt to the rapidly-evolving 21st Century market. CSA developed what we call the “gateway” instructional model in an effort to fill those gaps in the training community.  \nInstructor candidates will learn and demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course\, they’ll complete an instructor certification examination\, and they’ll have to pass a shooting qualification course of fire. We have found that many “beginner” classes on the market are often weighed down by assumptions and misperceptions about what new shooters typically bring with them. These classes often take for granted that every student has the same opinion about guns\, everyone has the same understanding of gun safety\, and everyone generally understands how guns work and what they’re used for. But that’s often not the case. \nAt CSA\, we take a different approach. Gateway instruction levels the playing field by allowing all students to enter the firearms training world without any pressure to know more than they know\, or to be someone they aren’t. One of the many benefits of this teaching technique (and the reason we call it “gateway instruction”) is that it greatly increases the chances of students investing in more training and becoming members of the training community\, rather than just visitors or sightseers. Private security work in Tennessee is governed by the Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act (Title 62\, chapter 35 of the Tennessee Code). It’s regulated by the Department of Commerce and Insurance\, which administers the application process. One requirement for new applicants is 16 hours of specialized training. Code Ann. § 62-35-118 (b) for applicants seeking to earn an armed security registration card.  \nAs required by law\, this is a 16-hour course that includes 4 hours of unarmed guard training and 8 hours of classroom instruction with a focus on authority\, duties and legal responsibilities of security guards/officers\, use of force laws in Tennessee\, gun safety\, and proper selection of weapons and gear. The goal is to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and mindset necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically\, responsibly\, and with confidence.  \nTopics include: \n\nMental awareness and techniques for gaining advantage in life-threatening confrontations\nProper defensive mindset and personal tactics \nConcealing a pistol properly and clothing considerations\nEffective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress\nRapid presentation from concealed carry during an attack (and safely concealing it)\nHigh speed accuracy at close ranges and precision shooting at mid ranges\nRapidly and reliably fixing pistol malfunctions and reloading techniques \nShooting effectively with one hand\, with either hand\nTactical anatomy \nProper skill development practices \n\nClass prerequisites: Completion of a state Handgun Carry Permit class or another comparative pistol shooting class. You should also have some experience safely handling\, drawing and holstering a pistol. We recommend full or compact sized guns for this class. Sub-compact guns are much harder to shoot all day. A second gun like the first one is a good idea in case the first one breaks\nA quality strong side hip or appendix holster – either form fitted leather or kydex\, the holster must completely cover the trigger guard\, allow a full firing grip with the gun in the holster and remain open while the gun is drawn. PLEASE NO flimsy nylon or cloth holsters\nA quality Belt\, designed to securely attach the holster to the belt and support the weight of a fully loaded pistol\nAt least 300 rounds of quality factory ammunition suitable for practice. Bring more if you have it and we’ll have even more fun. \n3 magazines or speed loaders with 2 appropriate pouches for the spare magazines\nClothing appropriate for concealing a firearm (vest\, jacket\, windbreaker\, over-shirt\, polo shirt\, etc). Holsters must be worn concealed.\nEye protection and hearing protection (we recommend electronic) and a ball cap or brimmed hat to keep brass from going behind your eye protection. \nRain gear (we train rain or shine)\, bug dope\, and sun screen \nA cooler with soft drinks\, water\, snacks and lunch will be needed\, for lunch on site. One requirement for renewal of an armed guard license is 4 hours of training. This 4-hour course satisfies the training requirement imposed by Tenn. One requirement for renewal of an armed guard license is 4 hours of training. Private security work in Tennessee is governed by the Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act (Title 62\, chapter 35 of the Tennessee Code). It’s regulated by the Department of Commerce and Insurance\, which administers the application process. One requirement for new applicants is 16 hours of specialized training. Private security work in Tennessee is governed by the Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act (Title 62\, chapter 35 of the Tennessee Code).
