SUMMARY:NRA CCW Instructor Certification Course (Memphis)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The goal of the NRA CCW Instructor Certification Course is to equip firearms trainers with the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary to teach others how to safely and responsibly carry a concealed pistol for personal protection. NRA CCW is a newly-developed curriculum that builds on the fundamentals taught in the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and puts those skills into a defensive context for private citizens who carry concealed handguns. The CCW Instructor Certification Course is 16 hours in length (over two days)\, with a significant portion of the class spent on the range.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]This course teaches firearms trainers how to deliver the NRA’s CCW lesson plans. The lesson plans include the following topics (which instructor candidates will learn to teach): \n\nReview from NRA Basic Pistol or TN Handgun Carry Permit class\n\ngun safety rules\nproper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols\nFundamentals of marksmanship\nammunition knowledge and selection\n\n\nholster selection\ndifferent carry modes\ndrawing from a holster (open and concealed)\ndefensive mindset\ndefensive accuracy and flash sight picture\nemergency reloading\nmalfunction clearances\none-handed shooting\nshooting from moderate distances (10-15 yards)\nshooting with a timer\nand much more!\n\nThe course concludes with a written instructor candidate exam and a shooting qualification drill. Small classes ensure low student-to-instructor ratios for lots of individualized attention.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Equipment List” tab_id=”equipment”][vc_column_text]Instructor candidates will need: \n\na quality defensive handgun\na properly-fitted holster and belt\nat least two spare magazines or speed-loaders (and a method of carrying them on your person)\nroughly 150 rounds of ammunition\na cover garment for concealment\nanything you need to keep yourself comfortable in the elements (we’ll spend several hours on an outdoor range)\n\nFeel free to contact us for questions about equipment requirements\, and please let us know in advance if you will need to purchase ammo from us so we can make sure we’re sufficiently stocked.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Course Length” tab_id=”course-length”][vc_column_text]The NRA CCW Instructor Certification course lasts two full days (roughly sixteen hours total)\, with a significant portion of the class spent on the range for live-fire drills. This sixteen-hour instructional time does NOT include Basic Instructor Training (BIT). Since all CCW instructor candidates are required to already be certified as NRA Basic Pistol instructors\, we assume most candidates will have already met the BIT requirement. However\, if you would like to add the CCW instructor rating and you need to renew your BIT credentials\, please let us know. All CCW Instructor course prerequisites (including BIT) will be offered at Top Gun in the weeks preceding this course.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Prerequisites” tab_id=”prerequisites”][vc_column_text]There are two mandatory prerequisites before instructor candidates are eligible to be certified as CCW instructors: \n\nYou must already be an NRA-certified Basic Pistol instructor\,\nYou must be current on your Basic Instructor Training (BIT) credentials\, and\nYou must successfully complete the CCW student course (the course you’ll be certified to teach)\n\nThese prerequisites are non-negotiable\, and there are no exceptions\, regardless of your occupation\, regardless of other certifications\, and regardless of how much prior training and experience you’ve had. For those who need the prereqs\, we will be offering those classes at Top Gun as well. Please see our calendar for details or send us an email.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Register Now” tab_id=”section-register-now”][vc_column_text]We look forward to seeing you in class! SUMMARY:Critical Pistol Skills (Lee Weems)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For this class\, Citizens Safety Academy is proud to host a longtime friend and colleague\, Lee Weems of Georgia-based First Person Safety. Lee will teach students how to safely operate their pistols through a progression of freestyle\, dominant hand only\, and non-dominant hand drills.[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”mulled-wine” c_icon=”chevron” active_section=”9″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Course Details” tab_id=”section-course-details”][vc_column_text]\nCourse Content: \nThis 300 round course develops the skills needed to successfully operate a pistol with either hand. Students will learn through a progression of freestyle and dominant hand only drills to ultimately draw\, reload\, and clear malfunctions using only their non-dominant hand. It is much more convenient to learn how to do this on the range than to have to figure it out under incoming fire. \nPrerequisites: \nThis is not a course for the first time student. Enrollment is limited to students who have already completed training from a recognized instructor that included drawing\, reloading\, etc\, under time constraints. Graduates from a law enforcement academy\, IDPA Sharpshooter class or USPSA C-class shooters or higher will also be accepted. Other students may be admitted with approval from the instructor. Please don’t hesitate to ask. \nPlease contact lee@firstpersonsafety.com if you have any inquiries.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Guest Instructor Lee Weems” tab_id=”lee-weems”][vc_column_text]Lee Weems has been a peace officer since January of 1999 and has served as a patrol officer\, field training officer\, detective\, supervisor\, and Chief Deputy.  He has been sworn at the local\, state\, and federal levels\, and he is an adjunct instructor on the collegiate level.  He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (GALEFI) and is certified by GALEFI as a Master Firearms Instructor.  He is certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) as a general topics and firearms instructor and is a graduate of the FBI’s Law Enforcement Instructor and Police Firearms Instructor training programs. \nA more complete biography is available on the First Person Safety webpage. \n***First Person Safety is a registered trade name of Proficient Strategies\, LLC.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Equipment” tab_id=”1570750342799-d79e07e8-b3d8″][vc_column_text]You will need a quality semi-automatic pistol and ammunition that will function in your pistol. Your holster should be one that does not collapse when the pistol is drawn and allows for one-handed re-holstering. Holsters that require the use of the trigger finger to disengage a retention device\, such as a Blackhawk Serpa\, are strongly discouraged. At least three magazines and 300 rounds of ammo are needed. Shooters need eye and ear protection as well as a hat with a brim. Shooters should bring whatever personal comfort items such as drinks\, food\, chairs\, etc. that they wish to have.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Cost & Deposits” tab_id=”cost”][vc_column_text]The cost for this course is $100.00. A spot in the class may be reserved by making a $50.00 non-refundable deposit (credit card fees apply if paying online). The balance is due on the date of the class.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Weather Policy & Cancellation Policy” tab_id=”weather-and-cancellation”][vc_column_text]\nWeather Policy:\nIf the weather is such that it jeopardizes the students’ safety\, the class will be postponed or delayed as appropriate. Otherwise\, the class will go forth as scheduled rain or shine. \nCancellation Policy:\nThe deposit is non-refundable if you choose not to attend the class. If the range were to cancel\, full refunds will be made. I reserve the right to cancel the class and grant full refunds if fewer than five students sign up for the class. If I am forced to cancel the class for reasons other than the outlined above\, students will have the option of a refund or attending the course on another date.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Register Now” tab_id=”section-register-now”][vc_column_text]We look forward to seeing you in class.
