CSA is excited to travel to the Sooner State and offer Oklahoma shooters an opportunity to earn NRA instructor credentials! This instructor course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises, student-teaching, a shooting qualification drill, and a written exam. This course does not teach people how to shoot (instructor candidates should already be well-versed in the fundamentals of marksmanship). Instead, this course is designed to teach experienced shooters how to teach others the basics of pistol shooting.

NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Certification Course (Oklahoma City, OK)

This is a two-day course (roughly 16 hours total). Interactive classroom instruction will take place in a comfortable classroom at the Oklahoma City Gun Club (OKCGC) in central Oklahoma. Live-fire lessons will be conducted on a convenient outdoor range at the same facility.
Day one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT), utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. Candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures, basic public speaking skills, training methodology, use of a training team and training aids, organizing a course, building a budget, and preparing to teach. Day two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students. Each candidate will need approximately 100 rounds of ammunition and a reliable handgun.
Before attending the instructor course, candidates will be required to provide proof that they have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course. For aspiring instructors who haven’t yet taken Basic Pistol, we are offering the Basic Pistol course the day before this instructor course.
