NRA Pistol Instructor Certification Course
June 1 @ 8:00 am - June 2 @ 6:00 pm CDT
$350.00This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. Instructor candidates learn to organize and teach the Basic Pistol curriculum and demonstrate mastery through practical exercises, student-teaching, and a written exam.
This is a two-day course to certify students as NRA certified pistol instructors.
Day one is NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT), utilizing the NRA Trainer’s Guide. During this part, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures, basic public speaking skills, training methodology, use of a training team and training aids, organizing a course, building a budget, and preparing to teach. Day one also includes the pre-course shooting qualification.
Day two is Pistol Instructor training. During this portion, candidates will be provided with the Basic Pistol lesson plans and student packets. Role playing is a major part of an instructor course. Candidates take turns working in teams to teach portions of the course to other candidates who role-play as students.
For this class, you’ll need:
- A reliable handgun (semi-auto or revolver, 9mm or larger preferred, but any caliber accepted)
- Roughly 100 rounds of ammunition
- Eye and ear protection
- Proper attire
- Note-taking materials for the classroom
- Your NRA number (if you’re a member – though membership is not required)
- An open mind
- A positive attitude
We’ll send an email to all students within a week of class with more details on what to bring and what to expect.
Before attending the instructor course, all instructor candidates are required to attend the Basic Pistol Course, since that is the course you’ll be certified to teach. If you’ve already taken this course with another NRA Instructor, please email us a copy of your official NRA completion certificate as soon as possible. If you’d like to take Basic Pistol with us, We’re offering it the day before the instructor course.
Please do not contact us and ask if the Basic Pistol prerequisite can be waived. The NRA has a strict policy that all instructor candidates must take Basic Pistol in order to qualify for instructor candidacy. There are no exceptions, regardless of prior training, profession, or experience. Thanks in advance for understanding.
We look forward to seeing you in class! If you have any trouble with the embedded registration form below, you can also register directly on our Eventbrite page (click here). Thanks!
